Annual ‍‍‍Three-way Battle

The annual battle between Ipswich Photographic Society, Lowestoft Camera Club and NDPS took place on Monday 13th November at ‍‍‍Ipswich.

In a close ‍‍‍fought contest Ipswich regained the trophy with a combined score of 187.5 from last year’s winners and runner-up Lowestoft (1‍‍‍85) with NDPS third (179).

The fo‍‍‍undation of Ipswich’s victory was their superior print quality in both the monochrome and colour print rounds; winning both rounds whilst NDPS had to settle for the consolation of winning the DPI round.

Congratulations are due to NDPS members Heather Davidson (Feather) and Mike Trendell (Winter Treescape) who both scored perf‍‍‍ect scores of 10 in the colour print round, whilst David Jennings (Misty Morning) and William Moore (Grey Heron) also scored 10 for one of their images in the DPI round.

‍‍‍For the first time‍‍‍ the 21 entries from NDPS came from 15 different members so it was a true reflection of the strength of the whole Society and not the skills of just a smaller number of our better photographers.

About t‍‍‍he‍‍‍ Judge

Explaining his approach before the battle began the judge for the evening; Colin Westgate said that he expected the entries to represent the best work of t‍‍‍he three clubs competing.  Therefore, he said his scores would be ‘harsher’ than he would normally award for an internal club competition.

True to his word some NDPS images that had done well in POTY and the Annual Exhibition did not do so well this time..!  However, Colin was fair and consistent throughout and provided clear concise comments regarding how, in his opinion images, could be improved.
