Message from Keith Garnham - Chairman
The Norwich & District Photographic Society has made huge progress over the past year.
Our membership continues to grow and last season’s programme was excellent and second to none with many superb presentations. This year looks as if it will be even better with many great highlights throughout the season and a number of important new initiatives.
We have over recent years attempted to kick off the Season with a particularly good presentation and this year is no exception. Our new season starts on September 3rd with the great street photographer Damian Demolder. His presentation ’Street Photography- Life and Light on the Street’ should not be missed! We are also hoping to arrange a ‘Street Photography Workshop’ with Damian in Norwich for all members interested in taking their street photography to the next level.
A glance at our new website not only shows the hard work that has been put in by members of the committee but also shows the level of professionalism we want to bring to all aspects of the Society’s work. In my opinion the new website is a huge asset to the Society and will prove invaluable in attracting a whole new layer of members to the Society over the coming season.
We have established a number of Special Interest Groups including a ‘Landscape Group’ and a ‘Studio Group’ and a group affectionately referred to as ‘Tom’s Tours’. All these groups are well attended and flourishing and we now are considering establishing a Wildlife Group over the coming season if there is sufficiant interest.
Another big development has been the ‘Public Competition’ which we initiated last year to run alongside our Annual Exhibition at Norwich Cathedral. In terms of raising the profile of the Society and advertising the Society on a scale we have never been able to achieve in the past this has been a huge success. We are in the process of determining the winners of this year’s competition which has attracted more than 200 submissions and for the first time we have also run a junior competition. The winning images will be on show at our Annual Exhibition and winners presented with certificates from David Noton at the ‘Chasing the Light Road Show’ at the University of East Anglia in September.
We are now about a month away from the most ambitious presentation we have ever organised ‘The David Noton Road Show Chasing the Light’ and I am appealing to you all to help make it a huge success. Please purchase a ticket and convince your family, friends and anyone who you think might be interested to also get a ticket. Normally as you know Special Presentations are free to members of the NDPS but on this occasion since there are large costs involved in arranging this particular presentation we are asking for members support in putting on a presentation of this stature.
David Noton’s ‘Chasing the Light Roadshow’ is yet another milestone in the development of the Norwich & District Photographic Society and will be a fantastic night of superb photography from one of the most respected and internationally acclaimed photographers at the very top of his game. This really is a presentation not to be missed by anyone with an interest in photography in general and landscape photography in particular.
Finally can I thank all members who have helped to make the the Norwich & District Photographic Society such unqualified success over the past twelve months. We will be opening early on September 3rd at 6pm please take this opportunity to get in early to pay your subscriptions for the 2019/20 season.
See you all at the opening night on September 3rd.
