Members' Evening - Winter Programme

  • Norwich & District Photographaphic Society The Interactive Studio, City Academy Norwich 299 Bluebell Road, Norwich, NR4 7LP United Kingdom (map)

Giving feed-back on something is really easy. Giving useful feedback on a subjective matter - such as photography - is, in fact, extremely difficult.

Our weekly meeting will tonight focus upon ‘Critiquing Images’ -  An area of photography of interest to all members who make pictures, not just for competitions, exhibition, photographic qualifications, and other projects, but more importantly for their own enjoyment and memories.

Working in small groups in the first part of the evening we shall all review the same collection images that have either done very well, almost made it and in some instances not been very successful in recent NDPS competitions.

Each group should explore the artistic appreciation; impact, composition, mood, and so on that ‘makes a winner’  Equally, important is identifying how each of the images could be improved.

In the second half of the evening, we shall collectively review as many images as the time allows.  The images will be projected randomly, and one of the groups will be asked to discuss the image before moving on to another image and another group.

We are grateful to those members who have agreed to their images being shown tonight. Nevertheless, all images will be projected anonymously.

CANTLEY SUGAR FACTORY - David Turner (selected best print in recent NDPS Annual Exhibition)

Members’ Evenings are an opportunity for members to share their photographic ideas, images, knowledge, and experience in a friendly and supportive environment. Tonight NDPS member Andrew Mott will give a short demonstration showing how he uses minimal light to capture his still-life images. A useful technique to master for the forthcoming cold, wet winter days ahead when you want something to do…!

After that there will be a number of tables set-up around the Interactive Studio for members to compose their own images and try out the techniques.
Bring along your camera, a small hand torch and a tripod. You can also bring along props if there is something you would particularly like to photograpg. But there will be a number of objects that can use in any case.

About Members’ Evenings
At the heart of Norwich & District Photographic Society are the activities that engage the membership and provide opportunities to feed their passion for photography. Whether learning a new technique, taking a photograph for a photographic competition or assignment, attending a photo-shoot and sharing their knowledge with other members, the Society provides a framework for members to be involved in all aspects of photography on a regular basis.
