Join us tonight for an exciting talk with Stewart Wall..! Learn how to create captivating photography projects and stunning photobooks. Stewart, with decades of experience as a press photographer and a prolific photobook creator, will reveal his professional secrets.

Discover how to share your photography with the world in a low-cost, engaging way through photobooks. Stewart's expertise led him to write criteria for a new distinction category focused on photobooks for the Royal Photographic Society. He chaired the assessments for the first two years. Now, he mentors photographers in creating photobook projects and teaches the use of Affinity Publisher for designing them.

Don't miss out on this opportunity to learn from Stewart and unlock the potential of your photography projects! Join us tonight for an inspiring and informative session.

Every month at Norwich and District Photographic Society there is the opportunity to hear inspirational photographic talks by photographers who are recognised to be at the top of their game and renowned specialists in their field of photography. The quality and range of subjects included in these Special Presentations are we believe unequalled both here in Norfolk and much further afield. Further, arguably alone they more than justify the cost of becoming a member of the Society.

The annual programme for the 2021-2022 Season that begins in September and runs through to the end of June 2023 is well advanced and has been designed to offer a broad range of excellent speakers who will cover, as in past seasons, a far reaching range of photographic genre.

Members of the Society are normally able to attend Special Presentations free of charge. However, NON-MEMBERS wanting to attend a Special Presentation can usually purchase a guest ticket prior to the event. Guest tickets (subject to availability) must be purchased in advance and are only available from our ticketing partner Eventbrite.co.uk.
Please note the ticket office for each individual presentation is not open until approximately ONE month prior to the date of the presentation when all arrangements for the evening have been agreed and confirmed between the presenter and the Society.

In 2015 Stewart established Future Heritage Photobooks as a publishing house and began to run collaborative photobook projects, many of which were in conjunction with the Royal Photographic Society. In 2020 the RPS asked him to create the criteria for a new distinction genre in photobooks, which he did, and then he chaired the assessments for its first two years. In 2021 the RPS awarded Stewart their Fenton medal and made him a life member for my contributions to the Society. He has also mentored photographers who have gone on to gain their associate and fellowship in photobooks with the society.

Drone Workshop led by Graeme Taplin

  • To be confirmed Norfolk United Kingdom (map)

This event has been moved to the reserve date of 14th April due to forecast weather conditions on the original date. Again, for flying - no rain and light winds, has to be confirmed a few days beforehand. If again on the 14th April and we have to cancel the event we shall try again when more stable weather is likely. Please reserve Sunday 16th June just in case.

Graeme Taplin - the NDPS President, has been a CAA accredited commercial drone operator since 2016 and is the director, pilot and photographer at Drone Photography Ltd.

Graeme has kindly offered to run a workshop for NDPS members, aimed at experienced and beginner drone pilots. To be held on Sunday 7th April.

During the workshop, he will give a demonstration of the various drones he operates, and offer some tuition to those who want it.

Graeme has arranged a Norfolk farmland location to fly the drones over open land. It's easily accessible and away from any obstructions such as crowds of people, main roads and buildings.

This workshop is the ideal opportunity for those members who already operate one, to get together to 'talk drones'. In addition, members who are thinking of buying a drone may find it useful to see what it's all about and learn more from experienced pilots and photographers. Coffee, Tea and Refreshments will be provided at the end of the workshop.

Special Presentation - The Photography of David Morris

  • Norwich & District Photographic Society (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Dave Morris is a highly-skilled, innovative photographer who lives in Cromer. His work is exhibited in many widely-respected national and international galleries. He trained in Graphic Design at Hull College of Art in the early seventies. Morris confesses that the course was alright but his time there seemed to be more about drinking and parties than serious learning. He eventually graduated knowing more about photography than Graphic Design.

After a working life comprising jobs in Art Direction and Creative Advertising, he concentrated on developing his inherent flair for photographic expression. His work is an eclectic mix of styles ranging from monochromes to infrared; portraits to street photographs, and fantasy to the pure and heavily manipulated image.

Dave Morris has photographed Artisans in the Cotswolds; The Crab Fishermen of Cromer, idiosyncratic human life in the bars of European cities; The Hippodrome Circus, Dancers on Cromer beach, the Household Cavalry and latterly a series of portraits in Churches for a project on Spirituality.

Join Dave Morris to hear of his forays into photography, which he defines as subject matter he’s firstly attracted to and then whether he can make any money out of it…!

A talk by Peter Benson FRPS MCrGP AWPF CPAGB BPE3* called “Photography on the Dark Side - the Gateway to Urban Nightscape Photography.” This online event is being shared with Sheffield Photographic Society.

About NDPS Special Presentations

SUNRISE SHOOT - THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO EXPECTED EXTREME WEATHER CONDITIONS.

The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning for Norfolk and Suffolk this weekend During Saturday clouds will quickly build and rain and strong winds will arrive overnight. The situation is not forecast to clear until Sunday afternoon as the clouds travel eastwards. The Met Office has told people to expect flooding of some homes, roads and businesses, interruptions to power supplies and delays to bus and train services while the warning is in place this weekend.

A yellow warning for rain was also in place last weekend, leading to floods being seen across the county. Some roads remain impassable with floods of up to 1.38m deep.

If people do decide to venture out alone take care and we will try to add an additional shoot in the coming weeks

The Landscape Group meets regularly throughout the year.  The exact location of the shoot is decided about four weeks beforehand so that we can consider the local tide times out on the coast and also the forecast weather conditions we are likely to encounter.  Even then sometimes things do not go to plan and the plans can change even in the last few hours before to meet time.  For that reason it is recommended that members check the website for any last minute changes before travelling.

In conclusion, photographic competitions have always been and will
continue to be essential part of the Society’s DNA.

Pictorialist Group Shoot - Great Yarmouth

A Pictorialist Group Shoot at Great Yarmouth.

Please note that these are new details that supercede those previously advertised.

On Saturday 10th February at 11:00 am we will gather outside the Kingsgate Community Church near the newly opened Herring Bridge.

We can discuss exactly where we go and the order when we meet, but a walk over the bridge will bring us to the gas works and the old Royal Naval Hospital.

Staying on the east of the river could take us along to the old mud banks and fish wharves of Gorleston. So, please wear boots and clothes that can survive the muddiness!

We could even do both and fit some lunch in half way through!
