There is no need to reserve a place on this shoot. Rather than each member have an allocated amount of time to take their own shoots the emphasis will be on technique. Tonight we shall concentrate on ‘low key’ lighting - bing your camer along and give it a try…!

The first of our new style Monday evening meetings when the focus will be firmly on learning lighting techniques so that in time everyone is comfortable with setting up the lights ready for a shoot. We shall be using our regular venue the Old Courthouse in Blofield.
Since we are focusing on technique we shall be working without a model using a tethered camera so everyone can see what is going on.

Today the Studio Group is holding one of its successful ‘model days’ at the Dairy Barn Studio in Beccles.
Our model will be Samantha Whitfield and we have also booked Shannon Collyer as MUA. This is a great opportunity to work with an experienced model in friendly surroundings to capture good portrait and fashion shots. In addition, there is lots of support on hand for anyone who is new to this type of photography.
The cost is £50 for a one hour slot. However, as alwats, we shall try our very best to pair members together so that by working as a pair they spend two hours in the studio.

Tonight our model will be Charlootte Ives - an artist who has a background in Fine Art, specialising in photography, short film and performance.
Currently, Charlotte is working as an artist model for drawing, painting and sculpture. However, she is seeking to use her modelling skills in photography. Alongside her modelling, she is a volunteer at a local theatre, working in front of house and behind the scenes. The realm of theatre and performance has always interested Charlotte, in the light of acting out roles and the appreciation of creative set scenery.
This will be the first time Charlotte has worked with the Studio Group.

The Dance Studio is on the Ground Floor and is best reached via the Sports Centre Entrance which connects directly with the corridor where you will find the Studio. The Studio has a wooden floor and mirrored walls which we can use to set-up our shots and we shall also have a selection of backdrops we can put up if preferred.
Clara is going to bring along a selection of clothes and her pointes. Although not a trained dancer Clara is a experienced model who has a number of dance related poses in her portfolio so hopefully we shall all get a few good photos…!.

We are still trying to agree the use of a suitable venue throughout the season so we have a permanent home for the entire year. Discussions will be concluded in the coming week (week commencing 5th September when everyone is finally back from holidays). It does mean however, that we cannot confirm the venue until the middle of that week. But we do have a back-up plan just in case so the meeting will go ahead…!
Our model for the night is Rose Weaver who has modelled for us before. Rose is currently pregnant so we shall concentrate on portraits although Rose has said she is happy for the baby to ‘show’ in the shots

With covid restrictions continuing to ease the regular Studio Group Shoots that take place on the second Monday of each month will recommence tonight at Brundall Memorial Hall, Links Avenue, Brundall, Norfolk just 10 minutes from Norwich.
Our model will be Estelle Long who most group members will be familiar with since she is one of the most popular models that regularly work with the group. In addition, Estelle also regularly works with some NDPS members on individual projects. The theme for tonight’s shoot will be summer fashion with an emphasis on getting traditional portrait shots plus three-quarter and full length shots.
We shall also take a few moments to discuss priorities and other shoots to be organised by the Studio Group in the coming weeks and months. Please feel free to arrive about 15 minutes early if you wish to participate in this discussion.
We are pleased to announce that the regular Studio Group Shoots shall continue to take place on the second Monday of each month at Brundall Memorial Hall, Links Avenue, Brundell, Norfolk just 10 minutes from Norwich. This will now be our home at least until Christmas when we shall decide how to continue our programme of Studio Days and Group nights going forward.
Tonight we are arranging for a local model, who is new to NDPS to join us and members who attend will ALL be expected to share at least one of their photographs taken during the night. The model tonight will be Eva Annison (AKA eva_noodles, on instagram) and her theme will be 'A Pop of Colour' (Modern Fashion).
We shall be asking members who attend to pay £5 each to cover the cost of the hall..

The emphasis at these Monday night meetings will be much more about learning. For example, we shall try to recreate a style of image or we shall be looking at the different ways in which we can use studio lights and other equipment.
In addition, if members have something they want to try let us know and we will try and accommodate .as many ideas/requests during future meetings. At this meeting we shall try and recreate this style of image using just a single studio light.

Our Model for SUNDAY 31st October will be the experienced Norfolk based model - Catherine Nicholls. You can look up Catherine’s work on PP (Maretta Vergette) - Catherine has loads of experience, can do her own hair and make-up to a good standard, and will bring along a rather large wardrobe selection of vintage clothing...!.
Following feedback from the last shoot this time there will again, still be a total of SIX hours during the day (three in the morning and three in the afternoon). At the end of each hour there will be a ten minute break and we shall take a longer break in the middle of the day. .Members can book a minimum of half and hour to photograph our model. However,a member can also book two, three or four consecutive half hour periods if they want more time with the model. Members who book additional consecutive periods of time may also be accompanied by another NDPS member throughout their reserved time if they wish to work together. PLEASE NOTE: a single half hour period cannot be shared..

Members who book additional consecutive periods of time may also be accompanied by another NDPS member throughout their reserved time if they wish to work together. We are currently collaborating to choose and book a model and if necessary make-up artist for the day and these details will hopefully be confirmed in the next day or so. However, we have decided to advertise the event now because we know there will be a high demand for places.
During the day there will be six one hour sessions during the day (three in the morning and three in the afternoon) that will be allocated exclusively to just two photographers. At the end of each hour there will be a ten-minute rest break to allow the model to take a breather and get ready for the next two photographers to start their session.
In the middle of the day, we shall have a half hour break again to let the model have a rest and to get ready for the afternoon sessions.

Regular models Hayley Bird, Estelle Long and Cathy Wilson were joined last season by some new faces including Chrissie Lake, Andy Jennings, Ann-Marie Doggett, Emily Mathers and Maretta Vergette. DURING THE CURRENT NATIONAL LOCKDOWN DUE TO THE COVID PANDEMIC ALL STUDIO GROUP MEETINGS HAVE BEEN SUSPENDED - WE HOPE TO START AGAIN JUST AS SOON AS POSSIBLE
Norwich & District Photographic Society has an active studio group. Regular shoots are organised with the opportunity to photograph a variety of subjects including models – both male and female. These can be for example portraiture, fashion, and figure studies.
Normally shoots take place at one of the local photographic studios regularly used by NDPS that are equipped with a selection of backdrops.on the Second Monday evening of each month starting at 7:00 PM. but full details for each shoot are also published beforehand so keep an eye out for any changes.
Currently, the shoots take place at the Dairy Barn Studio in Beccles run by Alan Lyall who has made most welcome and is himself is an excellent studio/portrait photographer.
Lighting currently available comprises 4 x Bowens XMS750 studio lights, two 1m square softboxes, two 80cm x 60cm softboxes, 1.5m Octabox, 95cm Octabox, two 1.6m x 35cm strip boxes and a range of 6 other different reflectors/snoot/barn doors/umbrellas. With Norfolk placed in Tier 2 from 2nd December we are currently reviewing if it is possible to re-commence Studio Group meetings - In the meantime this shoot is provisionally cancelled
