Cambridge Camera Club Digital Inter-Club Competition

Last Saturday afternoon after the judge, David Lowe ARPS , DPAGB from Smethwick had delivered his critique for the images entered by the twenty-five competing EAF Clubs taking part in this year’s competition Norwich & District Photographic Society tied on 90 points with Ampthill & District Camera Club and Shillington & District Camera Club.

Unfortunately, David chose the reserve image from Ampthill, so they were declared the winners with NDPS, and Shillington declared ‘equal second’.

Near but so far. Nevertheless, this was outstanding achievement and confirms the recent successes by NDPS in other inter-club competitions and the continuing growth of talent and commitment to improvement amongst the Society’s members..

Here are the full results

Congratulations to Dave Balcombe, Maurice Young, David Turner, Alan Dixon, Tom Watson, and Gary Hagg who had images selected for the NDPS entry.

Reflecting upon the competition Dave Balcombe provided the following review:

For those of you who have not attended a Cambridge interclub competition the hall at Whiitlesford near Cambridge is packed out with representatives from 36 clubs from the region and we have a good time meeting old friends and enjoying tea and cake in the afternoon. This year was rather different as only 25 clubs entered and the judging was carried out online and we had to supply our own tea and cake.

The judging is carried out over 6 rounds, Monochome, People, Scenes, Nature and Open then if there is a tie the 6th image is used. On Saturday those logged in to watch the judging saw some great images, Norwich had the first image up and gained a good score, the next round saw Maurice Young be awarded a perfect 20 so well done to him. After 4 rounds Norwich was in the lead by one point, it was very close at the top. The fifth round found us tied on 90 points with 2 other clubs so the reserve images for those clubs were looked at and we just missed out so ended up joint second. This was a magnificent achievement for the club being the highest place we have achieved.  The club was represented with images from Dave Balcombe, Maurice Young, Dave Turner, Alan Dixon, Tom Watson and Gary Hagg. Following on from our recent success in the 3 way against Ipswich and Lowestoft we are doing well and getting noticed in the region.

Next up is the International 3 way then the EAF championships where we are hoping ot finish in the top 10 and go through to the second round, this has many more images so will be a real test of our strength in depth.
