Annual Open Public Photography Competition

Norwich & District Photographic Society (NDPS) returns this Autumn to Norwich Cathedral between Tuesday 27th September and Saturday 29th October when the 106th Annual Exhibition is held in the prestigious Hostry Exhibition Area.

Would you like to see one of your photographs exhibited at Norwich Cathedral in the Autumn..?  That's the prize awaiting four lucky photographers in our Annual Open Public Photography competition..!

To enter send up to three digital images and indicate your age if under 18, by midnight on Sunday 31st July. The judge of this year’s exhibition entries will choose the winner and two runners-up from a final shortlist of twenty selected by the members of the NDPS f1.4 Forum.   In addition, there is a separate award for best Junior Photographer under the age of 18 years old on the 1st of September 2022.

The authors of the four photographs selected will each be awarded a framed certificate at the ‘Private Viewing’ for NDPS members and their guests on Tuesday 27th September at 7:00pm in the Hostry.

The following terms and conditions of entry apply - good luck..!

1)         Entries should represent ‘Life’ in Norwich and/or more widely the smaller towns in the County of Norfolk. The theme delves into modernity through all kinds of photography set in the fabric of the County. At the heart of the challenge is the City, the urban environment and the humanity living there: the everyday life of big cities and the smaller towns throughout the county, the contrasts and the contradictions between the city and the rural environment, the aesthetic views, the architectural geometries, fragments of colour breaking up the greyness of the city. Real, immediate images, able to recount life and its stories.  Images should capture one or more of the following conceptual themes:

Streets - The infinite aspects of the city (and smaller towns) and of the lives of its dwellers.
People - The human body, to be portrayed in a pose or to fleetingly capture on the street. Portraits, fashion, glam and kitsch, faces and glances, conventional and unusual beauty.
Spaces - Urban spaces, among buildings and streets, shapes and geometries, monuments and churches, industrial archaeology, and abandoned places.
Creative - Artistic, experimental, conceptual, visionary, and abstract photos, which do not belong to any of the previous categories, but still refer to the ‘Life’ theme.

2)         Entrants must live within a 50 mile radius of the City of Norwich.

3)         Each entrant is permitted to enter a maximum of three (3) digital images.

4)         The entrant must have taken the image themselves and have copyright and consent to use the image as necessary. The photographer will retain copyright of the image.
Please note - Nothing must be added to the image being entered that identifies the name of the photographer for example, signatures or watermarks.

5)         NDPS reserves the right to use any image entered to publicise the competition and the annual exhibition.

6)         A panel of NDPS f1.4 Forum members will select twenty final images from those submitted by the closing date and the exhibition judge will then select from those twenty images the four that will be displayed at the 106th Annual Exhibition.

7)         Please note all entrants are limited to having just one of their images being in the final twenty shortlisted images.

8)         The four winning photographers must submit a high resolution file suitable for printing within FIVE days of the results being announced.

9)         NDPS will print and mount the winning photographs at its own cost ready to be displayed in the exhibition.

10)     The names of the 20 photographers whose images make the shortlist will be published after the judging has been concluded and the winners announced on the NDPS website and Facebook Page in due course.

11)     The names of the photographers will remain anonymous until the judging is concluded.

12)     Entries MUST BE MADE by ending up the three digital images via email to ndps.infocus@gmail.com .  The entry must be accompanied by your name, the title of your image(s), and age if under 18.

13)     The last date for entry is midnight on SUNDAY 31st JULY 2022.

14)     The decisions of the NDPS selection panel and the exhibition judge are final.

15)     This competition is open to anyone who is not a current member of the NDPS.

16)     NDPS reserves the right to remove any entries that do not comply with any of these rules from the competition.
