Sheffield Photographic Society and Norwich & District Photographic Society

Last night (28 January 2021) was the first joint meeting with Sheffield Photographic Society that delivered on its objective for the members of both Societies to begin ‘Getting to Know’ each other. Following the  running order of the programme both Societies offered selections of photos presented by a number of members that depicted the two Cities and their surrounding countryside – chiefly the Peak District, the North Norfolk Coast, and the Broads.  Of course, all the photos were of an excellent standard and the accompanying explanations added to the enjoyment of the large number of members who log-on to the zoom meeting in Sheffield and Norwich.

Norwich has been a city since 1194, when Richard The Lion Heart granted the Royal Charter. Sheffield's charter was granted in 1893. But Sheffield is a much bigger city with about 600,000 inhabitants while Norwich has about 150,000 and Sheffield has many more green areas - 250 parks and gardens compared to Norwich's 23.   By contrast perhaps reflecting the age difference between the two Cities records show that Norwich has more than 1,500 listed buildings compared to Sheffield’s 1,000.

But size does not matter members from both Societies offered some excellent examples of their work covering several different genres and laid firm foundations upon which we plan to build a strong and successful relationship long into the future.

Very many thanks to all those photographers who took part. A very friendly and relaxed evening with people already looking forward to the days when we can go to Sheffield and Sheffield can come to Norwich.
