Activity/Practical/Technique

  • Norwich & District Photographic Society Methodist Hall, Chapel Field Road Norwich, NR2 1DS United Kingdom (map)

Activity/Practical/Technique Evenings are where we get the chance to learn about photographic techniques, find out how to critique our images, learn practical stuff like editing techniques or photo-mounting, and occasionally go outside with our cameras. The exact details of the evening are normally published at least two weeks prior to the meeting.

Tonight there will be two presentations during the evening by Society Members - Dennis Hales and Paul Oliver

Dennis Hales’ Presentation
Having offered a short presentation, Dennis wrote to say he was now getting apprehensive as the Society’s programme sets the bar very high..!   Those who have seen the quality of the work Dennis produces in his workshop will know he has nothing to fear  whilst we sit back and enjoy the work of an exceptional master craftsman.

Dennis says that for his presentation he is going to use the classical three-part breakdown.

  1. Introduction of myself with reference to my workshop and club photography including my LRPS panel

  2. Current work within lockdown /shielding including wildlife and macro in the garden

  3. Work/product photography methods for Gallery and magazine images.  Workshop photography showing a slideshow of recent commission Silver wedding Wall piece during which he will be including lightroom camera on iPhone 8 workflow, transferring from the cloud to all synced images the main catalogue .

Paul Oliver’s Presentation
Paul Oliver will give us a short presentation describing why he likes to use film, as well as digital, cameras. He will talk about the different types of cameras and film that are available and how to get hold of them. He’ll then do a dry run demonstration of how to process film at home and the different bits of equipment needed to do that, while discussing how the chemistry works (it isn’t difficult!), followed by a short demonstration of some more advanced processing equipment.

It will be live and interactive rather than a series of slides, which may be a first for some of us since lockdown began..!
