Image of the Year (IOTY) Competition

  • Norwich & District Photographic Society meets at The Methodist Church Hall, Chapelfield Road, Norwich NR2 1SD United Kingdom (map)

Due to the coronavirus pandemic it has been necessary to change the arrangements for the season’s Image of the Year competition. Instead of there being both a category for both PRINT and DIGITAL images this season due to the coronavirus crisis the PRINT category has been deleted from the competition.

The competition will now be judged remotely via Skype by the judge for the night Andy Swain LRPS, CPAGB. Andy will be well known to a number of the Society’s members as he was previously a member of NDPS himself.

'I’m a spare-time photographer. Someone said that we make images rather than take images - I
go along with that. I learnt from Tom Heaton that it’s OK to go out to take a photo and come back with nothing except the memory of an enjoyable outing, and from Irene Froy that it’s photography myway
and that’s just how it should be.
That can be a bit tricky when I go out judging club photos - I hope that I’m positive and encouraging and that I offer useful, constructive criticism - who wouldn’t?' - Andy Swain talking about himself.

All images that were placed First, Second or Third in all FIVE rounds of POTY are automatically entered into IOTY. In addition, each member can enter ONE (!) digital images of their own choice, with no limitations on either subject matter or processing techniques. However, all other rules regarding eligibility and copyright ownership still apply.
At the end of the evening Andy will be asked to sdelect the winner of IOTY for this season.

Digital images must be submitted no later than midnight on Tuesday 26th May in accordance with the general competition rules which can be downloaded from the ‘member's’ area’ of the website .

The images should be the correct size and colour space and titled as set out in the rules of the competition.

The judge will be sent electronically a file containing ALL the images for him to review and mark before the night of the competition to eliminate the risk of flucturating quality of images being viewed remotely using Skype.
