Norwich & District Photographic Society are delighted to welcome the accomplished photographer David Keep who tonight will present highly-illustrated photo-talk about Sports Photography with Impact - Moving beyond the record shot…!

Sports images are very successful on the competition circuit and there’s no surprise why - they almost guarantee an image with impact. In this talk I’ll share my approach to gaining access, technical challenges on the day and post-processing. Sports covered include; athletics, squash, tennis, cross-country horse jumping, whitewater canoeing, speed skating, boxing and several more.

About David Keep - extract from an interview with artsbeatamanda November 23, 2019
David Keep has a competitive streak. You only have to look at the number of awards he has won for his amateur photography to realise that. The only way to win is to enter, and to be as successful as David you need to have a passion not just for taking pictures but also for showing them off.

“I consider myself an image maker not a photographer as I enjoy the processing as much as I do taking the photo. I am totally passionate about all forms of photography and I often spend 40 to 50 hours a week working on my hobby,” he said

Norwich & District Photographic Society are delighted to welcome the accomplished artist and fine art photographer E J Lazenby who tonight will present from Yorkshire her highly-illustrated photo-talk called ‘Paintbrush to Pixels’

From Paintbrush to pixels in EJ’s own words
My story of my journey to being an established equine photographer is an unusual one. My fully illustrated talk starts way back as a child, a sickly, chronic asthmatic with a strong love for horses. This led to a passion for drawing and painting every size and colour of pony my imagination would allow....

Due to a fierce allergy to horses, a camera was as near as I could go, otherwise I would end up in an oxygen tent after severe asthma attacks, so my collection of pony pictures and pot horses grew and grew, in turn as reference material feeding my passion for drawing and painting horses.

This love of art, nurtured throughout childhood took me through to a degree in fine art at Newcastle University where I learnt darkroom developing, unfortunately, also causing severe breathing problems. I battled on and it was not until I purchased a digital camera in 2006 that I really embraced what I could create.

After a teaching qualification in 2000 I started working in adult education and held numerous art workshops throughout the summer months. A chance encounter with a stunt team at The Royal Armouries led to the partnership with Atkinson Action Horses and the birth of my popular Photography Days events.

Here is what Elaine has to say about her talk - The session is for novice/ intermediate / any photographers who have not yet ventured into composite photography, and I provide a step by step overview of how composites can be useful in many scenarios. I begin with how to create simple composites, with no studio equipment, and work through to more detail on how I created award winning composite images. I also provide a step by step guide sheet... for members to try out themselves afterwards. That is where the magic happens.... I love seeing the images created by club members after a session…

Tonight’s meeting of the Society will be in two parts:

In the first half we shall be joined by Helmut Wagner from Foto-Club Koblenz in Germany. Helmut is well known to a number of NDPS members since he has been for many years the main point of contact with our colleagues in Koblenz and was elected an Honary member of NDPS for all the hard work he has done on behalf of both ‘clubs’.
Helmet will present a illustrated photo-talk illustrated with approximately forty of his images entitled ‘Mountains in the Valley’ that prove that great images can be captured if you use your imagination in our own local environment.

The second half of the meeting we shall view the images from members who entered the friendly competition - Three Images that Tell a Story. Each member will be invited to present their three images and tell us how the three images came about. After the meeting those members who participated in the competition will vote online to select the winning panel of images.

In yet another first for the Society tonight we welcome Allan Walls to talk to us from his home in the United States of America.

Those of you who have found Allan’s work on YouTube will know The Allan Walls Photography channel is all about helping ordinary people get the very most out of their photography. Videos cover all kinds of photography related topics, but they spend a lot of time talking about macro and close-up photography. The format varies and includes tutorials, reviews, commentary, live chat sessions, and much more. They also cover a lot of ground, and the videos are often very detailed, but clearly Allan also likes to have fun.

We should be in for a hell of a night but don’t worry if you don’t own a lot of macro equipment because Allan will also share his ideas for taking great close-up images with the photographic kit most of us have in our bag.

Tonight we have a virtual presentation from NDPS member Steve Roeck.

Jean and I spent some time working and living in Southern Africa and we have returned to Africa on a number of occasions. We spent a lot of time on safari or just travelling the bush and deserts. And in the process we had many, many, perhaps too many close encounters with the local wildlife.

Some were very enjoyable, others less so, though distance has mellowed the most "exciting". This is the illustrated story of some of our more enjoyable experiences

CANCELLED DUE TO CORONA VIRUS

Norwich & District Photographic Society are delighted to host a virtual presentation from international photographer Julian Elliott entitled A Journey to the End of the World.
The trials and tribulations of working on commission in the Patagonian fjords on a cruise ship. Very often from an outsider's point of view the life of a travel photographer looks glamorous and exciting. What is not seen is the battles against ‘Mother Nature’ when working on the job.
The talk will last about 90 minutes during which there will be a short break and afterwards there will be an opportunity for a Q&A session.

With a talent for seeing potential in situations that many of us would miss his personal approach to street photography is that it should be as honest as possible with little, if any post processing. Dave takes great pleasure in finding the extraordinary in the ordinary, often documenting the surreal happenings on the city streets.
